Nicole and Andrew had a small intimate wedding ceremony on Brisbane’s south side just before Christmas. I was contacted by Nicole a few weeks earlier who shared their story with me.

The reason for planning the small wedding ceremony brought me to tears.

Not just because it was upsetting, but also because I knew what she was going through and how she felt. Have you ever had an instant connection with someone and you just knew it was somehow meant to be? That’s how it felt, like it was divine intervention.

Nicole told me that her father was unwell and she wanted to do something that would lift his spirits. She wanted to make sure he got to walk her down the aisle, to the man she has chosen to spend the rest of her life with and I couldn’t have been happier that they chose me to capture this for them.

It was a small, intimate affair, only 4 people to be exact.

The wedding day was full of tears (mine included) yet I was comforted by how much joy was also in the room. As the ceremony had to be inside, when I arrived I saw the most incredible flower wall installation they had organised which transformed their lounge room into a magical space. It was perfect and I was so honored that I was able to be apart of it, to be welcomed into their world on that magical afternoon.

This is why I love what I do.

Being welcomed into this moment was not only heart wrenching but also healing. I wanted to make sure I captured the emotion of this wedding ceremony so that when they look back at these images they are transported back to that feeling, that moment in time.

After the ceremony I took Nicole and Andrew outside for a few portraits. The sun beamed down on us as we frolicked around the back yard snapping some candid moments.

Nicole later messaged me to let me know they had printed the images and given them to her father as a gift for Christmas. I couldn’t be happier knowing that these images brought them some happiness during this tough time.
